Katie Daigle – Art
Katie Daigle has a degree in Art Education from Southern Connecticut State University. She studied drawing and painting, among many other types of media. In 2007, she went abroad to study drawing and art history in Paris, France. In total, she has traveled to over 10 different countries and visited museums and monuments in some of the most historic places in the world. Mrs. Daigle has been teaching in Hartford and New Haven counties for the past few years. She teaches Intro Art, Ceramics, Graphic Arts, and Drawing.
Steve Wolf – Music
Steve Wolf received his BMus in Music Education from the Hartt School of Music in 2006. In addition to his formal studies, he also marched with the Boston Crusaders (DCI finalist drum and bugle corps), played in numerous jazz ensembles, directed Hawkapella (the university’s mens acapella group), and took many classes with the composition faculty. Since graduating, he has taught at several high schools around Connecticut and served as the Brass Caption Head/Music Arranger for the 7th Regiment drum and bugle corps. He has also spent a lot of time singing, especially with barbershop quartets. He won the northeast district quartet contest in 2007 and 2009, directs a barbershop chorus, and travels around New England as a coach. Concurrently, Steve owns/operates his own business WolfStudios, creating learning tracks and arranging/composing music on a freelance basis. The music classes currently being offered are Vocal Ensemble, Music Technology, Music Appreciation, Piano, Drumline, and Jazz Ensemble.
Jen Murdock-Sherman – Culinary Arts and Business
My name is Jennifer Murdock-Sherman; I have been an adjunct lecturer in the Hospitality Department at MCC for the past seven years. I have been teaching at GPA for three years and look forward to many more. I have many years of experience in the hospitality industry growing up in the business. I have worked in various restaurants doing everything from line cook to executive pastry chef. I have an A.S. in Pastry Arts and a B.S. in Foodservice Management from Johnson and Wales University. I have international experience making chocolates and other confections in Lucerne Switzerland. I am also certified with the Country Club Managers Association to be a Club Supervisor. My varied experiences and passion about food and travel enables me to bring excitement to our industry. I currently am finishing my thesis at Post University obtaining an MBA specializing in Leadership. I am very excited about starting a business program at GPA with both personal finance and small business management this year. Along with my busy work schedule I enjoy spending time with my husband of almost ten years and my eight year old son. Our favorite activity is going to the beach and spending time outdoors.
Kim Ruoff – Spanish
My name is Srta. Ruoff and I am excited to begin my third year of teaching Spanish II and III here at Great Path Academy. I am a graduate of Fairfield University and a native New Yorker. While attending Fairfield, I double majored in Spanish Language and Literature and International Studies. I also had a minor in Latin American and Caribbean Studies. During college I had the opportunity to spend a semester abroad living with a host family in Spain, as well as conduct volunteer work and research in Ecuador and Nicaragua. Since then I have travelled to Puerto Rico and Costa Rica for five weeks to teach an ESL course and to become TEFL certified. More recently, last year I had the pleasure of attending the first GPA Spain Trip! I accompanied 17 students and 3 fellow chaperones on an incredible tour of Madrid, Cordoba, and Sevilla. During my time at Great Path I have been involved in Badminton Club, Prom Committee and Spain Trip Fundraising. This year I am proud to be an advisor for the Spanish Club and I am looking forward to a great year!
Angeles Diez – Spanish
My name is Señora Angeles Diez and I teach Spanish I & Spanish IV &V at Great Path Academy. I am from Puerto Rico and graduated from University of Puerto Rico.
Seymour de Oliveria – Computer Technology
My name is Seymour de Oliveira and I am the Computer Technology teacher here at GPA. I have taught for six years and currently in the midst of my third year here at GPA as of 2014. I have two computer labs one with PC’s and the other with Mac’s. I went to Eastern Connecticut State University for my bachelors and Sacred Heart University for my Masters degree. I teach a total of four different courses for grades 9-12. I have a Introduction to Computers course covering the basics of what a computer is, the Internet/how to research, and the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Power Point, and Excel). In Graphic Design I focus on a variety of digital art programs: Adobe Photoshop, Alice (a animated movie creator i.e. Pixar movies), and Google 3D Sketch Up (create 3D structures/architecture). In Media Technology we discuss advertisements and there affect on people in movies, music, social media, etc. Lastly, I teach Mobile App Programming using a program called MIT’s AppInventor – we create Android apps from scratch.
Marybeth Traynor – Health
Ms Traynor began her career as a Health Career professional shortly after graduating from Columbia University in New York City. She then worked for many years in the Dental field before accepting a faculty appointment as Dental Hygiene Clinic Coordinator at the University of Bridgeport. She has previously held Assistant Professor positions at Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry and Creighton University School of Dentistry. Ms Traynor joined Hartford Public schools 14 years ago where she began her career as Health Educator .
Dr John Basile – Physical Education
I was born and raised in South Hartford and a graduate of Hartford Public Schools, this year at GPA makes my 30th year of teaching for Hartford Public Schools. I previously have taught at Kennelly, J.C. Clark, and Hartford Juvenile Detention center. I coached basketball at both CCSU and South Catholic High school. My favorite class this year is weight training where the students get to use the fitness center at the college, I am looking forward to another great year!
