For the past month, GPA ceramics students have been learning to use a variety of bowl forms to make soup bowls, which were donated to Manchester Community College’s 17th annual Empty Bowls Project. The event took place on Saturday, October 25th, 2014. Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to fight hunger. Potters and other craftspeople work with the community to create handcrafted bowls and guests are invited to a simple meal of soup and bread. In exchange for a cash donation, guests get to keep the handcrafted bowl as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world.
Local restaurants and businesses also donated supplies and a variety of soups for the event, which could be purchased in containers to take home. 100% of the guest donations went to Foodshare.
